Alliance candidates challenge Oli at his home constituency, RPP bags mayor’s postKathmandu, 20 May: Rashtriya Prajatantra Party’s Ram Thapa has won the mayor’s post in Damak Municipality, the home constituency of former prime minister and UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli.

Thapa was the mayor’s candidate from an alliance against the UML. 

Thapa has bagged 17525 votes against his rival UML’s Gita Kumari Poudel Adhikari, who had bagged 16 thousand 966 votes. 

Nepali Congress’ candidate for the deputy mayor from the anti-UML alliance, Regina Bhattarai won the election bagging 17 thousand 72 votes against UML’s deputy mayor’s candidate Ambika Khanal’s 16 thousand 574 votes. 

Earlier, RPP had won chairman of the Haldibari Rural Municipality and mayor in the Shankarapur Municipality in Kathmandu.
